Tiger Army's Nick 13 reports from the road!
October 21, 2002
As I write this Tiger Army is traveling across Kansas in our van... we're on tour with the Damned right now & we've got two shows left with them. They're a great band, both as musicians and as people, it's been an honor to play with them. Up next is Denver and then SLC, two of our favorite places to play outside of California. We start our own headlining tour after that, which lasts about a week. We hit Las Vegas, Phoenix, the Halloween show in Hollywood (can't wait for that one), Santa Cruz, Petaluma, Chico, all great places to play. Looking forward to seeing all our friends when we get back to "Cali." Geoff's recently gotten an endorsement from King Doublebass and has been loving his new stand-up. We've been out for a while now, it's been a really good tour. We hit Canada for the first time & hope to return soon, Toronto was my favorite up there. Some other favorite cities/shows from this tour were Philly, Pittsburgh, Chicago (which always rules) and St. Louis. Even the rest of the Midwest was fun on this tour (no offense)! Sometimes the most out-of-the-way places have the best scenes, you never know how a show will be.
The Transplants CD has been getting much play in the van. We got some good fireworks, hit Waffle House a few times, all the requisites for a good tour. October is my favorite month to be on the road. The weather's moderate, the colors of fall are all about & cool Halloween stuff potentially lurks around every corner in every store.
We spent a little part of our off-day in Lawrence, Kansas which I was stoked on because one of my favorite movies was filmed there, 1962's Carnival of Souls. That movie was a big visual influence on the video for "Incorporeal" (from Tiger Army II: Power of Moonlite) that we shot right before we left for tour. I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's the second video I've directed, the fist being "Cupid's Victim." You can see it here at the Epitaph site, it looks best in DSL. Our Early Years EP just came out, I'm excited about that, I've been wanting to rerelease that material for awhile. The record release party is Halloween night, that's now sold out, but I understand there will be a contest to give away some tickets here, so look out for that if you didn't get 'em in time. Artist Dave Burke is painting a special poster for the event, I really like his art, it should be great.
We just found out that we'll be playing with Social Distortion at House of Blues Anaheim on January 3rd! That show should be a lot of fun. We're going to Germany in November to play a psycho festival with fellow Hellcat artists the Nekromantix & some other great psychobilly bands, looking forward to that. Our shows from now until early November + the Social D show will probably be the last U.S. shows we do for awhile, we're going to shift our focus to working on songs for the next Tiger Army album. The songwriting's going really well so far and we'll head into the studio sometime early next year. We hope to have a new album by summertime, we'll see what happens!
That's all for now, Fred Hell has a pretty bad toothache and Geoff's driving. Hopefully we'll see some of you for our final shows of the year! You can always check out our site for the latest news and gigs at: href='http://www.tigerarmy.com' target='_blank'>www.tigerarmy.com
