Strummer and Weakerthans up for Shortlist Music Prize.

Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros and The Weakerthans have both been nominated for the 2004 Shortlist Music Prize for Artists Achievement In Music!

Both of these artists are included on the "Long List" of 73 total nominations for this year's awards.

These awards were founded in 2001 and honor the most creative and artistic records of the year as decided by a panel of some of the most respected musical figures in the world. This year's "Listmakers" (nominators) include Norah Jones, Robert Smith (The Cure), Jack Black, Perry Farrell, John Mayer, Jim Jarmusch, Serj Tankian (System of a Down) and many others.

Late this fall the awards will apear on a MTV2 special, an MTV2 Presents: The 2004 Shortlist Music Prize docu-concert TV special. This will feature performances from the 2004 Shortlist Concert which takes place on November 11 in Los Angeles, as well as candid interviews with nominated artists and the Listmakers. This special will be repeated many times. Also this Fall, XM Radio is airing a series of radio specials spotlighting all nominated music. Lastly, there will be a 2004 Shortlist Music Prize compilation album released nationally in late October featuring music from many nominees.
