The STRUMMERVILLE charity are appealing for votes for CASTLE HOUSE in BRIDGWATER, SOMERSET to win BBC2's RESTORATION series.

The charity, set up in honour of the late Clash singer, is aiming to rescue the castle - a contender in the second run of the television series, which offers viewers a chance to vote and help save one of 21 endangered buildings in the UK.

If it wins, the organisation then aim to convert the 'Concrete Castle' into the 'Concrete Casbah' - the first ever Strummerville HQ, which would provide rehearsal space and studio time to young people who want to make music, but are unable to afford to hire facilities.

As previously reported on NME.COM, Strummer, who died from a heart attack aged 50 in 2002, spent the last years of his life in Bridgwater, and Castle House, the first concrete building in the world when it opened in 1851, was one of his favourite buildings.

At a recent event at the 'Concrete Castle', a mass karaoke version of The Clash classic 'Rock The Casbah'was performed to raise money for 'Strummerville' (July 17).

The day also saw cult British artist Damien Hirst, a friend of Strummer, wrap the building in paper.

Other famous names there on the day included other Strummer pals Badly Drawn Boy, Happy Mondays star Bez, actor Keith Allen and Joe's former Clash buddy Mick Jones.
