Motion City Soundtrack to headline 2006 mtvU "Campus Invasion" tour!

mtvU PRESENTS “CAMPUS INVASION TOUR ‘06” WITH MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK, STRAYLIGHT RUN AND HELLOGOODBYE

TOP EMERGING ACTS TO VISIT 20 COLLEGE CAMPUSES ACROSS
THE U.S. BEGINNING APRIL 4TH

New York, NY - March 13, 2005 - mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, today announced dates and campuses for “Campus Invasion Tour ‘06.” The twenty date trek features on-the-verge bands Motion City Soundtrack, Straylight Run and Hellogoodbye and kicks off April 4th at the College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ. Those that can’t make it to one of the tour’s stops can catch all the excitement – including exclusive live performances and behind-the-scenes interviews – beginning April 24th on mtvU and mtvU Über, the network’s all access broadband channel at mtvU.com.

“The ‘Campus Invasion’ tour is well established as a launch-pad for up-and-coming artists, and the great bands on this year’s roster are poised to follow in the footsteps of Campus Invasion alumni like Muse, Moby, Wyclef Jean and Hoobastank,” said Joe Armenia, Vice President of Music, Marketing and Promotions, MTV. “On-air, online and on campus, mtvU is a crystal ball for new music, and we’re excited to bring this lineup of hot emerging acts to campus quads nationwide.”

As part of the tour, mtvU will present an interactive village at each stop from 11am to 4pm, where students can score free stuff, meet the bands during autograph signings and participate in a range of activities including DJ Scratch Academy scratch tutorials, music video challenges, a bungee run and a gaming lounge. mtvU cameras will also be on-hand to interview students, showcase the local college scene and giveaway VIP tickets to the big concert that night.

A portion of the proceeds from “Campus Invasion Tour ‘06” ticket sales will go to benefit LIFEbeat – The Music Industry Fights AIDS, a charitable organization dedicated to reaching America’s youth with the message of HIV/AIDS prevention. As part of the mtvU village, LIFEbeat will share information and help empower college students to make informed decisions about safe sex and protecting themselves and their partners.

Over the last year, Motion City Soundtrack have toured extensively in support of their Mark Hoppus-produced sophomore release “Commit This To Memory” (June 7th – Epitaph), selling nearly 200,000 copies and emerging as a main stage marquee act. MCS has performed on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, appeared in Rolling Stone and Spin as an artist to watch and won the “Breaking Woodie” (Best Emerging Artist) at the 2005 mtvU Woodie Awards – beating out competition from The Bravery, The Decemberists, Matisyahu, and Paul Wall. Finally, the band has just finished shooting a video for their second single “Hold Me Down” with renowned Director Joseph Kahn (U2, Muse, Eminem, Britney Spears) and his protégé Matt McDermitt (Backstreet Boys, Alanis Morissette, Anna Nalick).
Straylight Run consists of bass player Shaun Cooper, singer, guitarist and pianist Michelle Nolan, singer and guitarist John Nolan, and drummer Will Noon. The band has headlined and sold out shows across the UK and US and sold more than 200,000 albums. Its recent hit single “Hands in the Sky (Big Shot)” has been a student favorite and the video’s earned heavy rotation on mtvU. Straylight Run’s songs mix electronic drum loops and experimental guitar and keyboard sounds with those of basic acoustic instruments, creating a sound that is at the same time strange and familiar. The results are well-crafted pop songs with a depth sorely lacking in much of today’s popular music.

Hellogoodbye were raised amid the sunscreen vapors of Huntington Beach, CA, just a frisbee's throw from the Beach Boys' stomping grounds. Forrest, along with Jesse, Marcus, and Chris were schoolmates, helping shape each other's musical tastes. The band took first place honors in last year’s MTV2 Dew Circuit Breakout battle-of-the-bands competition, have been featured on mtvU’s “Backstage Pass” and “House Band” series, and will this week perform live at mtvU Spring Break ’06 in Panama City Beach, FL. Hellogoodbye’s full-length debut, produced by Matt Mahaffey (Self, Pink), will be out on Drive-Thru Records this summer.
