MTVU/EPITAPH Open voting on top 25 college acts...

Winner gets ep deal and MTVU video premiere, will perform on tour date with leading Epitaph Artist, and at MTVU spring break 07.

New York, NY - January 29, 2007 mtvU, MTV's 24-hour college network, today opened voting on the top 25 unsigned college acts on href=http://www.bestmusiconcampus.com>BestMusiconCampus.com competing to join Epitaph Records. The competition is part of mtvU's "Best Music on Campus" (BMOC) an online music destination offering college bands and solo acts unparalleled weekly, monthly and yearly opportunities to launch their careers. The act that wins the Epitaph deal will record an EP for the label, perform with a top Epitaph artist on a tour date, have a featured performance at mtvU Spring Break '07 in Cancun, Mexico and make a video that will premiere on mtvU and www.mtvu.com.

The quarterfinalists in the mtvU and Epitaph competition are live now on BestMusiconCampus.com, where college students and new music fans can browse, listen to and vote for their favorites. Online voting will play a key role in determining which acts advance and are in contention for the EP, performance and video deal. Voting for the quarterfinalist round will last until February 8th, 2007. The field will then be pared to 10, with semifinalist round voting lasting from February 12th - 17th. The final five artists will be revealed February 19th and final round voting will last until February 23rd. Execs from Epitaph and mtvU will then deliberate and pick the winner. The new addition to Epitaph will be announced shortly thereafter.

mtvU's "Best Music on Campus" enables college musicians and bands to build profiles with songs, videos, pictures, blogs and more. The best and most popular artists are recognized with exposure on MTV, mtvU and mtvU.com programming; the chance to open on mtvU tours and for emerging and established artists; and record deals with both indie and major labels. In late March, mtvU will unveil the top 50 college acts in the country, which will compete for the first annual 'College Artist of the Year' prize a promotion, video and record deal worth up to $1.5 million. The winner will be unveiled and debut with a live performance on 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien' in May. Eligible entrants in mtvU's 'Best Music on Campus' must be 18 years old, a legal resident of the United States, and solo artists or at least one band member must be enrolled at an accredited college or university. At time of entry and during the course of the contest, entrants (and all participating band members) must be amateur artists (i.e., cannot have a record deal and/or distribution deal with a major U.S. record label).
