Bring Me The Horizon

For BMTH, it all started in March 2004, when these kids got together from the ashes of a collection of defunct bands and began to write music. Taking their influences from bands such as Norma Jean, The Red Chord and many of the heavier American metal-core acts, the newly formed band soon started turning heads. Much more attention followed, building rapidly after playing shows across the UK with the likes of Zao, The Nothing, Shaped by Fate and Johnny Truant. A rabid, hungry, loyal and HUGE fan-base started to grow and their shows became busier and busier. They didn't have any boundaries or rules, they just wrote what they wanted to hear and play.

Bring Me the Horizon are five young British lads with a penchant for the heavy. Their astonishingly good debut mini album, 'This is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For', is essentially an 18 minute breakdown; four tracks of intense raging chugging and squealing, stop/starting and severe 'core riffing. Nary a second hand euro thrash riff to be found, nary a melodic sung chorus, all things about this genre that irritate are devoid (well save for ball splittingly tight pants and backwards hair-cuts). Then they played shows.... and kids moshed.... and they kept playing shows.... and kids kept moshing....

2006 became the year of the Horizon. First they became one of the top 100 played acts on MySpace (them and Coldplay were the only UK acts in the top 100!!!), followed by a blistering Radio One Rock Show Session. And all this from a band that had only recently released their debut album!

The debut, 'Count Your Blessings', released through Visible Noise in October 2006, is full of what people have already come to expect from Bring me the Horizon: massive riffs, erratic time signatures, tempo changes, immense vocals, shredding solos, blistering percussion, etc. BUT, the experience of working with producer Dan Sprigg (Lostprophets, Cradle of Filth) brought a new found maturity out of the band, a more solid direction and focus in song writing and structure. 'Count Your Blessings' set Bring me the Horizon as al benchmark band for the genre and beyond.

The band have grown again in popularity and profile throughout 2007 and 2008 with a North American release from Epitaph Records and extensive touring, plus a number dates on Gigantour with Megadeth in Australia, a huge sold out tour in the UK (culminating in a blistering sold out show at Londons' Astoria theatre which holds 2000 people), and being flown over to Russia to perform twice, all leading them to another tour of Australia and multiple European Summer festivals and most importantly a much sought after tour on the Warped tour for Summer 2008, where they have quickly established themselves as THE band that everyone wants to watch with their incendiary live show.

The band were writing and demoing new material since late 2007 and went into the Studio Fredman in an isolated area of Sweden in April 2008 with acclaimed producer Fredrik Nordstrom (Dimmu Borgir, At the Gates). They left with an album yet another step up from their previous work, entitled Suicide Season - A title very close to their hearts. The album shot the band into the rock stratosphere and received glittering reviews from the press (“This might be the best metal record to be released in 2008.” Rock Sound).

The album was followed by tours all over the world, including a massive 3 month jaunt across the US on the RockStar Taste of Chaos Tour, captured in the recent promo for the track ‘Diamonds Aren’t Forever’. So far in 2009, the band have toured Japan, Russia, Indonesia and now head back to Europe, the US and the UK for headline, coheadline tours (in the US with Every Time I Die) and festivals slots. They co headline the Festival Republic stage at Reading and Leeds festival this year.

In July 2009, Jona Weinhofen, previously of Bleeding Through, joined the band after the departure of Curtis Ward, with whom the band parted with on friendly terms.

It seems there really is no stopping Bring Me The Horizon’s assault on the world’s ear, and they remain one of the most popular and interesting bands to have come screaming out of the UK in years.
