One thing is for sure, when your talking about the history of art or music, pinpointing the origin of a specific movement can be somewhat tricky. Depending on who you talk to ("I swear - I was there man!") or what you read, the real story of Rock and Roll has more twists and turns than a Grand Prix race, with all the speed, power, glory (and the inevitable crashes) intact. So to arrive at the music you'll find Ho We Rock you must first journey through many a back alley, sleazy hotel and cheap booze joint, but the end result is a holy grail of pure sonic bliss. While Detroit (Stooges, MC5) and New York (Dolls, Dictators) bands that we consider our forefathers today did in fact have more in common with original rockers like Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent than more popular, over-produced (and boring!) bands of their eras, you can't get to where we are ultimately going here without a detour to the land of early punk. Yep, the fury of The Dead Boys, the cool delivery of Radio Birdman, even the originality of a band like Devo all play important roles here, because they added the element of surprise and chaos to go hand in hand with the ol' standbys boredom and strife. Lucky for us, every once in a while a compilation will come along that truly helps to define an era, arriving like an old friend with a 12 pack at 2 AM, just when you thought the party was over. Just as the Desperate Teenage series did for the 50's, Pebbles and Nuggets did for the 60's and Let Them Eat jellybeans did for the early 80's, How We rock brings you the first compilation of the new millennium bands that simply ROCK...and from all corners of the globe no less!
From small places like Fagersta, Sweden (The Hives) to the sprawling metropolis of New York City (Electric Frankenstein) you are getting the cream of the crop here folks. The best the United States has to offer (Rocket From The Crypt, New Bomb Turks) meet the reigning kings of the Scandinavian scene (Hellacopters, Gluecifer) to shake hands and call it a draw. The political and prudent (The (International) Noise Conspiracy) meet the pretty and powerful (The Donnas) and peacefully co-exist under one flag. The sadly deceased (Turbonegro) join those who only pretend to be (The Dwarves) all in one nice package, a place where Internatinal speed kings Zeke and Puffball kick it with more traditional rockers like The Gotohells and Peepshows and can only come to the conclusion that it's all good. Hell, you might even make some new friends named Randy, Division of Laura Lee and Danko Jones along the way. So let's hear it for our friends at Burning Heart, because from The Supersuckers in Seattle to Sahara Hotnights in Stockholm, then have spanned the globe to bring you the premium blend... How we rock indeed!
